Getting started with new software can sometimes be daunting.
Not so with this package, which has some streamlined features. A handy set of tabs appears at the foot of the design screen, which allow you to skip between Space Plan, Floor Plan, Elevation, Walk Through, and 3D. You select Space Plan Mode for a new drawing and then choose each of your existing ground floor rooms in turn. Then simply bring them into the drawing area and drag them to the required size, which at this stage doesn't need to be too precise. You can overlap them to create L-shaped hallways, or oddly-shaped rooms. Once satisfied, click the Floor Plan tab to view a fully dimensioned drawing of your ground floor area.
When you size up a new kitchen or cloakroom, say, the software calculates the floor area. You should be aware, however, that the area quoted is measured from the centres of the surrounding walls, so isn't equal to the net floor space.
The Build menu contains the building's main elements, from walls to lighting. A simple editing tool lets you change window or door styles, plumbing and sanitary appliances while working in either 2D or 3D.
A decoration library offers typical fabrics, floor and wall coverings. Viewing this option may provide inspiration on style. It contains collections of fixtures and fittings for each type of room.
This is a very sensible and immediately accessible package for anyone wishing to formalise his or her dream home plans. Because it's so enjoyable to use, the planning phase is likely to take a lot longer than you thought!
