Overview
H2Reg.exe is a command-line utility used to Register/Unregister MS Help 2.x Collections: Namespaces, Titles, Plug-ins and Filters. It's an alternative to using the MSI (Microsoft Installer) solution. You run H2Reg with a command script file at install and uninstall time.
Key Features
The 2 files that make up H2Reg (h2reg.exe & h2reg.ini), must always be in the same folder at runtime. You can either provide a 3rd file, which is the command script file (typically called h2reg_cmd.ini), or you can add your command script directly into the H2Reg.ini resources and settings file. For large complex jobs, you can use FAR to generate command script for you (See the FAR 3.2.5, H2 Utilities page, H2Reg Export command).
| H2Reg.exe |
Takes your command script, and registers (or unregisters, depending on the command-line switch used) all your MS H2 documentation files. This file can stay on the CD ROM, but typically you should install it with the documentation files so that your uninstaller can find it. |
| H2Reg.ini |
Contains a few resource strings & settings. You can translate the resources into several languages. This file must be in the same folder as H2Reg.exe. You can optionally insert your command script into this file and not ship the 3rd file. |
H2Reg_cmd.ini (The command script file can be any filename) |
You supply a command script file containing registration instructions. The commands in this file typically specify filenames with relative paths (relative to the folder containing this file). Full paths can also be used if required. We typically install this file into the same folder as the documentation files. If this file is not specified then H2Reg.exe looks for the registration command script in H2Reg.ini (above). |
