Overview
This is a reliability failure rate AND failure mode data base which provides information on the high and low limits which would be observed by studying the majority of published data sources. It is based on my comprehensive data base. This data base is different to any other published data in that it offers data ranges in order that the engineer can use judgement in the selection of failure rates. It also therefore permits assessments to be carried out over ranges thus providing a more realistic prediction than is obtained by the use of a single rate. It also provides an invaluable yardstick against which to compare any specific data values obtained from other sources. My PhD thesis addresses the correlation between data and actual field performance and establishes confidence limits for predictions and is available with the package. It is based on a study of over 20 published data sources from offshore and onshore applications in oil and gas, telecom, military, aerospace and commercial industries. It is therefore a valuable benchmark as well as a useful source of failure rates. FARADIP is now widely used for risk and reliability work for both process, mechanical and electrical equipment. Unlike the majority of data bases, failure mode percentages are also included wherever possible. FARADIP includes a Failure Mode Analysis package which provides columns for the assessment of the auto-diagnostic coverage of each component failure. These entries are used to compute the 'safe failure fraction' which in turn becomes part of the assessment of safety-integrity levels (SILs) as defined in IEC 61508.
